The privatization of the economy privatized the labour market and made unemployment the flip-side of system transformation. In the new economic climate, women were more vulnerable than men. Many were employed in technically outdated and globally uncompetitive industries and found their chances blocked. Women with children faced immediate disadvantages since combining employment with family duties had been privatized alongside the economy.
