Citations are only one tool for judging impact and are probably not ideal for assessing impact on product design. As Figure 1 shows, interest in this topic was low until special issues on aging in 1981 and 1990, and particularly the 1991 issue on age and driving, from which point there has been an increasing stream of papers.
