Der Widerstand einer Generation von Ärzten muß gebrochen werden, die sich nicht mehr an ihre eigene Jugend erinnern können; der Hochmut der Väter ist zu überwinden, die vor ihren Kindern nicht gerne auf das Niveau der Menschlichkeit herabsteigen wollen, die unverständige Verschämtheit der Mütter ist zu bekämpfen, denen es jetzt regelmäßig als unerforschliche, aber unverdiente Schicksalsfügung erscheint, daß »gerade ihre Kinder nervös geworden sind«.

Und es ist auch offenkundig, daß die Grundzüge seiner Sexualtheorie bereits festlagen, als er (Anfang des Jahres 1901) die Fallgeschichte der »Dora« niederschrieb (vgl. 1905 e, Studienausgabe, Bd. 6, S. 85 und 125, Anm. 2). Trotzdem hatte Freud es nicht eilig, seine Ergebnisse zu veröffentlichen.
