Hong and Pan (1998) restored Cyclocodon as genus based on observations on pollen grains and seed-coat of two species in Campanumoea sect. Campanumoea and two species in Campanumoea sect. Cyclocodon. Recent molecular works (Eddie etÂ€al. 2003; Haberle etÂ€al. 2009; Wang etÂ€al. 2013) indicated that the closest relative of Cyclocodon is Platycodon, not Codonopsis. Our observations in the present work show that the three species of Cyclocodon are consistent in seed morphology and deserve an independent seed type (Figures.
